Two world-renowned guitar masters have changed the game by coming together as the SatchVai Band. Joe Satriani and Steve Vai share more than five decades of friendship and passion for music, and now they’re making it all come to life with their upcoming 40-date 2026 tour, Surfing With The Hydra! Just in time for their eagerly awaited collaborative album, the two are kicking off spring 2026 with shows all over the country. Satriani enthusiastically invites everyone to revel with the music, saying, “The SATCHVAI Band rides again! After a fantastic European tour last summer Steve, Kenny, Marco, Pete and I will bring the Surfing With The Hydra Tour to the US. We can’t wait to play you the new material from our forthcoming SatchVai album along with your favorite songs from our shared catalog. Satriani and Vai are perfect examples of musicians that made it. Satriani was actually Vai’s guitar teacher, and their careers have often overlapped prior to the making of the SatchVai Band, sharing incredible performances on various notable shows and tours. Both have earned 15 Grammy Award nominations, with Vai taking home three wins. Satriani is hailed as the bestselling instrumental rock guitarist of all time, selling over 10 million albums. Vai has the richest and best hard rock guitar-virtuoso album of the '80s, selling over 15 million records. He was also voted as the 10th Greatest Guitarist by Guitar World. The two instrumental rock artists have collaborated with guitarist Pete Thorn, drummer Kenny Aronoff, and bassist Marco Mendoza in the making of the well-awaited SatchVai Band, and the five of them will continue the success of their recent tour this spring. Vai sentimentally recalls their European tour, sharing, “The SatchVai Band Summer Euro tour of 2025 far exceeded anything I could have imagined. Joe and I struck pure jammin’ gold night after night. Being in the same band with Joe, playing songs we actually wrote together on stage, in real time felt like watching a childhood fantasy step out of my teenage brain and stroll onto the stage. And somehow, it was even more rewarding, satisfying, and downright fulfilling than I ever thought possible.”
From Washington, experimental metal and instrumental progressive band Animals As Leaders have made great impressions on the djent scene, and they have produced four albums that made them memorable for their listeners. Made up of members Tosin Abasi on lead guitar, Javier Reyes on rhythm guitar, and Matt Garstka on drums, their musical skills together create magic, just like the members of the SatchVai Band. Reyes shared, “We’re all very aware of what the three of us can do individually but when you combine all three, something really cool happens. At the end of the day, we’re just trying to write good music and write music that’s enjoyable for us to listen to.” Watch them set the mood on this upcoming tour as the official opening act!
